Despite Disney passing antitrust approval from United States, Europe, and India, still awaiting approval from the rest of the regulators, critics of Disney's purchase expressed concern of a significant amount of antitrust concerns. The deal is a horizontal merger (i.e., in which a company buys up a corporation that produces the same goods and products) as opposed to a vertical merger (i.e., two companies that operate at separate stages of the production process for a specific finished product), much akin to the integrations of AT&T–Time Warner and Comcast–NBC Universal. As such, horizontal mergers are more disapproved than vertical mergers, as they effect a more tangible reduction in competition. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) states in its own website that "The greatest antitrust concern arises with proposed mergers between direct competitors (horizontal mergers)."
First things first; the rule book on last-minute flights has changed over the last decade. At one point, it was possible to save money on a last-minute flight simply by showing up at the airport with bags packed and a willingness to go wherever seats were cheapest by way of a stand-by flight. That situation no longer holds true and stand-by flights only happen if you miss your flight or already have a ticket and hope to snag an earlier departure. In addition, the current landscape for last-minute travel has changed, requiring more research and forethought on the part of travelers. Rather than just showing up at the airport, now it’s up to you to see what flight options are out there and which ones might work best for your travel circumstances.
You can save money by booking ahead, too. Some airlines, particularly in America, will reward you for doing your homework and will offer you an airline credit making up the difference if you call them. Otherwise, try to buy refundable tickets and if the price drops you can cancel and repurchase at the cheaper price. Find out when the best time to book your next flight is with our handy guide.

What to order: The $5 footlong is dead! Long live the $5 footlong! Ever since Subway scrapped its signature deal, people looking for a quick sandwich for cheap have never been the same emotionally (or financially). Still, the sandwiches remain quite affordable: We recommend ordering the six inch Italian B.M.T. (Genoa salami, spicy pepperoni, Black Forest ham) on rye bread ($4.69) with a bag of Doritos ($1.29). And don't forget to top that sucker with any fixins you want -- unlike other sub shops (*cough* Jimmy John's *cough*) -- it's all free.
Nintendo Switch plus a game for $330-ish (about $30 off): Amazon was offering a nice bundle on the Nintendo Switch, tossing in a 64GB microSD card and a $20 eShop credit at no extra charge. That deal is gone, but the Walmart alternative remains: A Switch console with your choice of a single title -- including great games like Super Mario Odyssey, Zelda or Mario Kart 8 Deluxe -- for about $330, which is effectively $30 off. (The exact price varies a bit, depending on the title you choose.) See the CNET review of the Nintendo Switch.
When it comes to booking a last-minute flight it’s best to do it when you don’t have to be somewhere, but rather just want to go somewhere. Waiting to book a last-minute flight for something set in stone (a conference you need to attend, a friend’s wedding) means you have zero flexibility and will likely end up spending more than you want to. In instances where you have to be somewhere at a specific time, it’s best to book in advance.
